Very nice tool. At age 60 I decided to learn crochet from online videos. I really like the look of Tunisian crochet and bought a whole set of Tunisian hooks, but at my first attempt I realized I bit off more than I could chew. So I decided to start very simple. I bought this hook which arrived promptly yesterday and I began while watching a video on crochet for absolute beginners. This hook catches the yarn better than my pretty Tunisians. Through my own lack of dexterity and the fact that I can’t always distinguish exactly which loop I should be hooking through, and not finding a good way to have the yarn pass through my left hand, wow, I had quite a rough start. The thought came to quit, but that Sia song “Never Give Up” kept running through my mind. This hook is small enough to be nimble and after much awkwardness, I finally picked up the crocheting rhythm. I finish my project, a small face scrubber, with a major tension error issue and many irregular loopings, but it’s done and just as functional as a perfected crocheted one done by a pro. My next one will be a lot better. Once I got the rhythm down, I really enjoyed listening to an audio book while crocheting. It’s a great hook, I much prefer the feel of wood (especially from an olive tree which carries a strong symbolic meaning for me) that metal or yucky plastic. I want to have more craftsman and folksy items in my home, so crocheting will help me achieve this. Also I took this up because I keep reading how learning new skills out of one’s comfort zone does much to ward off cognitive decline. So if even you’re hesitant, go for it!
