The school said my new Kindergartener who lives in Crocs and slippers because he said everything hurts his feet was going to have to have tennis shoes with velcro straps for gym class! So... what was I going to do!?! I knew that New Balance makes adult shoes in wide, extra-wide and even wider so I though I’d start there ... and lucky me! Finally, my little one has a pair of traditional tennis shoes that he says feel good on his feet. Based on the not-at-all-scientific “mom test” it feels to me like he has some excess room in the toe-box but I also sized up 1 size because it’s summer and he’s still 2 months away from school. Furthermore, I thought he could just wear thick socks with them if they were still a little too large. Bottom line: New Balance shoes are long-wearing and comfortable. But most importantly-I needed an extra wide toddle sized velcro strapped pair of tennis shoes that my son would actually wear and they are the only brand I could find that could supply them for me - it was just a bonus that they are so good looking and well made by a trusted brand. I’m very happy!! (My son is 5.5 years old, has a 7 inch foot and I purchased a 12.5 Extra-Wide. I feel like a wide would have probably worked too, but I’m so tired of his complaining - he even says socks are tight and bother him - that I just bought the widest option available). And I’m very happy with this purchase!!
