This was exactly was I needed, I have some very interesting systems for my hummingbird feeders to hang. This is larger than I expected, but if I had bothered to look at the measurements I would not have been surprised. This is only an issue I was going to use it to hang a feeder from a smaller branch, and this is just too large, the feeder will blow off in a strong wind. No problem, it will work amazing on a thick tree branch. The hook is larger than my feeders if you need a reference for your own yard. The only thing I worry about is I've lost my original s-hooks for my feeders, and I think that putting the smaller end of this directly into the top of a feeder is too tight of a fit and will break the loop. Picking up replacement s-hooks at the hardware store and everything will be all good.It works. It's balanced and easy to put in and remove. I used it for bird feeders but then I moved and now I use them for hanging plants and wind chimes. The hook arrived promptly with no shipping/packaging issues. I bought two 12 inch hooks as an add-on item (no shipping cost) for my hummingbird feeders and ant-traps (not the one using poison but water) and they do the job. I prefer to use the small hook (2.5 inch wide) to hang it from one of the branches of my Fichus tree and the large hook (5 inch wide) for the hummingbird feeder and my hummers to perch on. I hope the larger hook would prevent my feeders from falling. I do not have an issue with the green color of the hooks since it blends with the leaves. The hooks can be used for anything such as decorations, feeders, lanterns, etc.I am concerned about all metal hooks since there is the potential for rusting and chipping due to the elements. Rust should be removed immediately as it is toxic to birds. Birds chew and/or clean their beaks on the metal surfaces which would cause chipping of paint and rusting of the metal. Both rust and peeling paint are highly toxic and would result in their death.Beauty of Birds website provides tips on removing rust and cautions about painting, powder coating and using some rust removal products which might harm these delicate birds. One of the tips was using ordinary tea bags!! Please note that I am not a sponsor of this website. I am providing this link for the reader's information only. Below is the link...http://beautyofbirds.com/refinishingcages.htmlupdate 12/14/2014 -We just had a major storm with high winds and five inches of rain in Southern California. The wind knocked down my fichus tree in a container where I had hung my S hook and glass hummingbird feeder. The next morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find my glass hummingbird feeder still intact and connected to the S hook hung from the tree branch as opposed to being blown away in the wind and shattered to pieces. When I hung the S hook, I used the smaller hook for hanging it from the tree branch and the larger hook for hanging the feeder thinking the larger part of the hook would prevent my feeder from being blown away in the wind. It worked for me although next time, I will take down the glass feeders. I have already ordered and received additional S hooks from this manufacturer. This is a well made, durable hook. I use it to both lower feeders to make filling easier and to hook feeders on branches that are too thick to accommodate the original hanger on the feeder. It is interchangeable in that you can use either the small or large end of the hook depending on the need.Solid as a rock. Still holding a bird feeder 6 years laterWhen it comes to Metal Hooks, you could say I'm sort of an expert. I have seen my fair share of Metal Hook variants in my day, and this one stands among the best of them. At first I didn't know what to think. I opened the package, grasped the hook to test its grasp-ability and with my left hand I attempted to test its flex. Pretty solid I'd say. While I have felt more solid Metal Hooks, in my experience they lack the durability of one with ever so little flex. This Metal Hook seems to have the strength to hold up a humming bird feeder filled with sugar water, but have the flex to survive wind or stormy conditions. Not only is it durable, but it is pleasing to look at! The large curve at the top is complimented by a smaller curve at the bottom, almost like a mother and her child. It's a symbolic relationship- as the mother holds the load of the family, and the child tries to follow in her footsteps. At the end of the day though, the mother is responsible for both the load of her child, but whatever her child attempts to take on as well- like a bird feeder. At the end of the day, this 12-Inch Metal Hook is a hook worth buying. If you feel like 12 inches is too small, the 23-inch variant looks very similar and is likely very nice as well. I highly recommend this Metal Hook! Not good at discouraging squirrels! ☺️These metal hooks of which I have eleven hanging in my tree holding bird feeders are brilliant. They stayed hanging all through the past 2 storms . Would thoroughly recommend.Far too big for use with bird feeders. It would support an entire bird cage!! Not what I was expecting.Stops squirrels and allows me to refill high hung feeders without a ladder.Excellent product, good value. What a versatile product! The heavy duty metal is in a subdued, dark green colour which I don't think will 'stand out' against the barren trees of winter.Having the two different size curves accommodates several branch options .Both curve openings are flexible enough to allow for a fairly snug fit over a branch , trunk and possibly a deck railing .The large hook is approximately 7 1/4 " from open tip to straight length side. The small one is approximately 2 1/4 " . I'm planning on buying a few more of these to use for other purposes. They'll make interesting " tie-backs" for a drapery project .Also using them for seasonal and party decorating .
