It will slide 3" deeper into my 2" receiver. I would rather the hole was a little closer to the hitch itself (but maybe other receivers won't accommodate that- they probably compromised for universality). The first time I wasn't paying attention, I "barked" my shin on the dang thing. I'll drill the hole myself and still feel like I got a good deal on it (compared to the prices I'd have paid in other "offerings". I have a nice ball cover from my old hitch that won't fit when the latch is down, but I'll shed no tears over that issue, either.
